Funded by the Government of Canada’s Age Well at Home Initiative. The project entitled “Expanding effective organizational capacity to support Black seniors To Improve their lives” is carried out by Uzima Women Relief Group International in partnership with Kenya Canadian Association (KCA) in Toronto and Bridge To Oasis (BTO) Foundation in Calgary.

The project expands beneficial services provided to Black Seniors and provides educational sessions to service providers to increase their understanding of the care needs that may be unique to improving the lives of Black seniors and build their capacity in providing support for Black seniors in a culturally appropriate manner.

New Horizons for Seniors

2023/03/30 to 2024/03/29

The project aims to enhance and empower Black Seniors in Toronto and the GTA to have a positive and healthy aging life due to the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The project also provides support to combat food insecurity. Funded by the provincial government. The BMFF project is funded by City of Toronto.

Black Mandated Funding Framework (BMFF)

01-10- 2022 to 30-09-2023

Conduct innovative capacity-building initiatives, informative workshops,  pro-social activities, and mentorship programs that address the needs of Black seniors and youth to help cope with the after-effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Red Cross - ENDED

The project supported Continental African seniors in Toronto experiencing increased isolation as a result of COVID-19 to safely deliver groceries and ensure seniors have access to essential services such as health care, medications, and social inclusion activities.

Workshops and social media platforms helped to build a network for isolated seniors that continues to grow .

Also, a successful  mens’ project targeted Black men of all ages in Toronto. The project ran along the goals of assisting those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic . They  participated in educational workshops and received groceries and other supplies.

Enhancing Senior’s Wellness and Safety

The objectives of this project will include providing information on elder abuse including financial abuse, training seniors in new technology to virtually navigate financial systems, and engaging seniors in the community through mentoring others on financial safety to reduce the incidence of abuse toward them.
