ABOUT US

Uzima Women Relief Group International is a non-profit organization incorporated in 2012. Uzima is a Kiswahili word meaning wellness. The organization works to alleviate poverty and augment wellness among at-risk populations facing health challenges brought about by lack of access to better economic opportunities.

Also, Uzima focuses on medical care and medicines, good nutrition and education for both women and men with a focus on women empowerment.

Uzima Women Relief Group International provides care and support to families affected by the effects of war and disease in Canada and internationally to contribute to the global efforts to relieve poverty and improve women’s health and education.

OUR PROGRAMS

Youth Violence & Human Trafficking Prevention

The project will engage youth and their families in educational workshops on violence and mental health because of the traumatic effects of violence associated with mental health.

Canada Summer Jobs

Uzima has been involved with hiring youth from Toronto and the GTA during the summer. They engage in all the programs running in the organization.

Female Genital Mutilation

Since 2016, Uzima has been involved with researching the effects of female genital mutilation/cutting in Toronto’s African communities. The results can be found in the report translated into various languages.

Gender Based Violence (GBV)

This program aims to reduce social isolation of African senior women who are survivors of Female Genital Mutilation/ Cutting (FGM/C) and their families in Toronto.

F.U.N Program

Training sessions to empower youth with skills in digital marketing, web development, and employment skills.

Mental Health

Most programs in the organizations incorporate workshops and other media to raise awareness.

Red Cross

The project supported Continental African seniors in Toronto experiencing increased isolation as a result of COVID-19 to safely deliver groceries and ensure seniors have access to essential services such as health care, medications, and social inclusion activities.

International

Uzima is currently supporting grassroots women groups in Kenya.
