Enhancing Seniors' Wellness and Safety works to reduce the incidence of abuse toward seniors — including financial abuse — by giving them information, skills and a voice in their own community.
Know the signs
Information sessions on elder abuse, including how financial abuse happens and what it looks like.
Build the skills
Training seniors in new technology so they can navigate financial systems virtually, and safely, on their own.
Pass it on
Seniors engage their community by mentoring others on financial safety, so the knowledge spreads beyond the room.
What we've delivered
A strong funding record behind the seniors' work — the Government of Canada, the province, the City of Toronto and the Canadian Red Cross.
Age Well at Home
"Expanding effective organizational capacity to support Black seniors to improve their lives" — funded by the Government of Canada's Age Well at Home Initiative and carried out with the Kenya Canadian Association in Toronto and the Bridge to Oasis Foundation in Calgary. The project expanded services to Black seniors and delivered educational sessions helping service providers understand the care needs unique to Black seniors, so support is offered in a culturally appropriate way.
New Horizons for Seniors
Enhanced and empowered Black seniors in Toronto and the GTA toward a positive, healthy aging life following the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and provided support to combat food insecurity.
Black Mandated Funding Framework
Innovative capacity-building initiatives, informative workshops, pro-social activities and mentorship programs addressing the needs of Black seniors and youth coping with the after-effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Red Cross COVID-19 response
Supported Continental African seniors in Toronto experiencing increased isolation as a result of COVID-19 — safely delivering groceries and ensuring access to essential services such as health care, medications and social inclusion activities. Workshops and social media built a network for isolated seniors that continues to grow.
A successful men's project ran alongside it, targeting Black men of all ages in Toronto with the same goal of assisting those in need during the pandemic. Participants joined educational workshops and received groceries and other supplies.
